What is a District Founder?

CollaboTokyo is a virtual Tokyo where creators, developers, entrepreneurs and brands meet and build things together. The city has nine districts, each with its own scene — and each needs someone to bring it to life.

We’re not looking for moderators who keep the lights on. We’re looking for people who want to build: the recognized leader of a district who grows participation, sparks conversations, organizes activities and turns a place into a community people want to come back to.

Your district. Your community. Your vision.

1

You lead the community

Set the tone, run the events, welcome new members and decide what your district is known for.

2

We run the platform

CollaboTokyo builds and operates the city, its infrastructure and its tools. You lead the community experience — the platform and district infrastructure stay ours.

3

You share in the upside

As your district grows and earns, you earn a share of its eligible revenue.

What could you build?

A few ideas to get you started. None of these are required — try different things, keep what works, and invent formats nobody has tried yet.

  • Weekly networking meetups

The same night every week, so people know where to find each other.

  • Creator collaboration events

Pair people up and watch collabs start in real time.

  • Startup pitch nights

A stage for founders and a room full of honest feedback.

  • Hackathons & competitions

A theme, a deadline and something shipped at the end.

  • Industry office hours

Experts answer questions in short, friendly slots.

  • Brand sponsorships

Bring in brands that genuinely fit your community.

  • Community challenges

30-day streaks, build-in-public sprints, themed prompts.

  • Workshops & learning sessions

Members teach members, from beginner to advanced.

  • Social media campaigns

Grow your district beyond the city walls.

  • Member-led projects

Give your most active members the keys to their own ideas.

Where district revenue can come from

  • Brand booths
  • Sponsorships
  • Premium placements
  • Paid events
  • Community memberships
  • Other district-specific monetization

The fine print, up front

  • This is an independent, revenue-share-based opportunity — not a salaried position or employment.
  • Revenue is not guaranteed. What a district earns depends on many things, including the community you build.
  • Shares are calculated on eligible net platform revenue, as defined in your individual agreement.
  • Leading a district doesn’t mean owning it: there is no permanent district ownership or perpetual revenue right. Terms are set in your agreement, starting with a 90-day pilot.

Why become a District Founder?

What you get out of it, beyond the revenue share.

Every event you host puts you at the center of the room.

  • Become a recognized leader

Your district, your formats, your voice.

  • Use CollaboTokyo’s infrastructure

Event spaces, booths, chat, profiles and AI tools — ready on day one.

  • Experiment freely

Try event formats and monetization ideas without building a platform.

  • Shape the platform

Founders have real influence on what we build next.

Questions

Do I need to live in Tokyo?

No. CollaboTokyo is a virtual city and the program is 100% remote. Founders can be anywhere in the world.

Is this a paid job?

No. It’s an independent partnership, not employment and not a salaried role. Founders earn a share of eligible district revenue, so earnings depend on how the district performs and aren’t guaranteed.

How does revenue sharing work?

Founders receive a standard 30% of eligible net platform revenue from their district — things like brand booths, sponsorships, premium placements and paid events — with the opportunity to reach up to 40% through performance incentives. Exactly what counts as eligible revenue, and how it’s paid, is set out in your individual agreement.

Do I need an existing audience?

No. An audience can help, but what matters more is initiative and a clear idea of how you’d find your first members.

How much time do I need to commit?

There are no fixed hours. You decide how much time to invest; we’ll talk about what you have in mind during the pilot. More consistent activity usually means a livelier district.

Can I organize my own events?

Yes — that’s the point. You can design and run your own events and formats, within the community guidelines.

Can I bring existing community members?

Absolutely. Inviting people from your existing communities is one of the best ways to get a district going.

Can I recruit moderators or other organizers?

Yes. Many founders will want co-hosts and helpers. Formal roles for subdistrict leaders and moderators can be discussed as your district grows.

Can I lead multiple districts?

Start with one. If it goes well, leading more can be discussed. You can mention a second choice on the application.

Do I need prior community management experience?

No. It helps, but we care more about initiative, creativity and your instinct for bringing people together.

What happens after the 90-day pilot?

We review together how the pilot went. If it’s working for both sides, we can discuss a longer-term partnership and its terms. Either side can decide not to continue.

What happens if my district doesn’t generate revenue?

Then there’s no revenue to share. There’s no cost to you as a founder and no penalty — we’ll look at what was tried and decide together whether to continue.

Who owns the community and its content?

Members keep the rights to what they create, as set out in our Terms. The platform, district infrastructure and the district itself remain CollaboTokyo’s. Your own relationships and the reputation you build are yours. Specifics are covered in your agreement.
